‘Home Safe’: Laura Sky takes us through the lives of the homeless

COVERAGE BY MEHREEN SHAHID

Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies is hosting a documentary screening of ‘Home Safe’ by Laura Sky. The documentary hits home with many of us addressing the issues of homelessness and poverty in some of Canada’s biggest cities. The veteran director/producer, Sky, established SkyWorks 1983. The series entitled ‘Home Safe’ covers the lives of families dealing with homelessness. The documentaries also help shed light on the economic conditions many families are faced by and the factors that contribute to poverty and in some cases lead to homelessness.

The Social Service Worker and Child and Youth Worker programs hope to mobilize the students so they become involved in social initiatives battling problems in the society. All sheridan students are invited to attend the screening and join the filmmaker and faculty members for breakfast and discussion later on. The event is to be held at the Marquee on Trafalgar Campus and The Den on Davis Campus from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

You could also follow the Sheridan Sun’s Twitter feed and website for live updates on the event.
