Halton Police are still looking for two suspects after a possible armed robbery on one of the trails next to Sheridan College.

Police say the victim, a Sheridan student, was approached by two black males who demanded he hand over his wallet with one of the suspects then lifting their “upper clothing to flash what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband.”

The incident was caught on multiple security cameras, said Michael Burjaw, Sheridan’s security director.

“We’ve got great video footage of them but we don’t recognize them,” he said.

The first suspect is described as being male, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-8 and160 pounds with a medium to heavy build. He was wearing a black toque, black loose-fitting jacket and baggy black pants.

The second suspect is described as male, between 6-feet and 6-foot-2, with a thin build, wearing a black hoodie.

An email sharing the events, which was meant for staff and students, was supposed to have been sent out on last Monday. Only staff received the email.

Sheridan staff originally denied that students had not received an email about the robbery. By Friday afternoon the email had been sent to students.

Christine Szustaczek, director of corporate communications & external relations at Sheridan, said the fault was with IT.

“We requested it to be sent to students and staff. Our request said to students and staff,” she said.

“Our intention is to share incidents with everyone,” Burjaw said.

According to police reports the suspects spoke with the victim for some time before fleeing.

The incident was originally thought to be a hoax, according to Burjaw.

“When that information came to the police we treated it as a joke,” Burjaw said.

The victim didn’t initially report the robbery to security or police.

“The initial report was posted on a Facebook page that was not school related,” he said, adding that someone who saw the post then contacted security.
