In September 2005, Halton Healthcare Services and the Hospital Infrastructure Partners reached an agreement and signed a $2 billion contract to build a new hospital in Oakville. The new building will replace the existing Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, which opened in 1950 and only holds 50 patient beds.
The joint construction venture, done by EllisDon Construction and Stephenson Engineering, is one of the largest healthcare redevelopment projects in Ontario. Boasting 457 inpatient beds in a 1.6 million sq. ft. building, the hospital will provide state-of-the-art patient care. With 80 per cent of inpatient rooms designated as single use, the hospital will be focusing on patient privacy and consideration for family members and loved ones.
The team goal in building the hospital is to achieve a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification in its abilities to save water and hydro resources.
The new healthcare facility is scheduled to open in December 2015 and is located on a 50 acre lot at Dundas St. and Third Line.
