Toronto designers prepare to show their Spring 2014 collections at World MasterCard Fashion Week
The cobblestone path at David Pecaut Square will soon be covered in luxe white tents and the click-clacking sound of stilettos worn by Canada’s chicest tastemakers when World MasterCard Fashion Week begins on Oct. 21.
The Spring 2014 collections, showcased by some of Canada’s most beloved designers, will be shown in the square until Oct. 26.
“[Toronto Fashion Week] is the opportunity for our city to show off some stellar homegrown talent,” said Paige Dzenis, associate online editor of Fashion Magazine. “It’s also an opportunity for retail buyers and editors like myself to forecast trends and noteworthy pieces to include in stores and the media.”
Industry heavyweights, including Joe Fresh, David Dixon and Pink Tartan, will return to the tents to show off their spring collections.
Young and trendy industry hopefuls like Axel Kohler and Beaufille will take to the tents for their first time.
There are plenty of opportunities to rub elbows with the fashion industry’s elite this season.
The invite-only Holt Renfrew opening night party and the Mercedes-Benz Start-Up Competition will resume on their regular scheduled dates.
The startup competition allows Canadian designers who have been in the business for less than five years to showcase their collection to Toronto’s media and retailers.
A panel of industry insiders then selects a winner based on their talent, which garners a cash prize and the opportunity to network with Canada’s hottest retailers and publications.
A new event, Fashion Saturday Presented by BMO, has been added to the calendar this season.
“[Fashion Saturday] is a fun event where show-goers will be able to see and purchase pieces from the designers who have shown their collections and will also experience the VIP treatment that those seated in the front rows are accustomed to,” said Adrienne Lee, a press volunteer at World MasterCard Fashion Week.
The event will include live music, hair and makeup stations (sponsored by Maybelline New York), food and drinks, a curated playback of the week’s fashion highlights, backstage tours and a decked-out swag bag.
Tickets for the event start at $75.
If you can’t make it to the shows (tickets are available for purchase), find a seat at the corner of Wellington and John streets to view the street style.
Stay tuned for the Sheridan Sun’s coverage of World MasterCard Fashion Week in the October 31 issue.
