Sheridan staff and students gathered inside SCAET Wing on Monday to pay their respects to Canada’s fallen military and view the Remembrance Day ceremony live-streamed from Davis Campus.

This year students at Trafalgar Campus were also invited to remember by watching the ceremony on TVs around the school.

The ceremony started with a video of moments in war, capturing times of heartbreak, sadness, celebration and victory.

Cameron Kneteman, a Music Theatre student, started the ceremony with a rendition of  “Danny Boy.”

After the performance, bagpipes filled the air and Sheridan president Jeff Zabudsky reflected on those who fought and sacrificed their lives.

“We are here to honour the sacrifices that were made, and we are honoured to be able to give back,” said Zabudsky.

After Zabudsky finished, a Music Theatre student sang her own rendition of “Imagine” and Sheldon Caruana read a poem that reminded us of why we wear a poppy and the importance of remembering.

“When we see a poppy worn, let us reflect the burden worn, wear a poppy and remember and live,” read Caruana.

Megan Jutting performed a song on trumpet to begin the two minutes of silence.

The ceremony was also streamed at Hazel McCallion Campus.

Bagpipes began to fill the air and Zabudsky introduced the wreath laying.

The wreath was walked down an aisle and laid in front of five flags, which initiated a recitation of “ In Flanders Fields” by the theatre students. The ceremony came to an end when Zabudsky asked everyone to stand for the singing of the national anthem.

And with that students and staff slowly rose and all began to sing “O Canada.”

“We are here to honour the sacrifices that were made, and we are honoured to be able to give back,” said Zabudsky.
