Job-hunting for students will be much easier after benefitting from the upcoming “Dress for Success” clothing drive and LinkedIn headshot clinics hosted by the Sheridan Career Centre.
Two events this month will give students opportunities for students to prepare for life after graduation.
At each campus students are invited on March 26 to check out the donated business attire for sale through the Career Centre, with the proceeds of each event being donated to the United Way.
The Career Centre’s employment development specialist Kerri Zanatta-Buehler is in charge of both the clothing drive and headshot clinics.
“The business clothing drive is a call out to people to take a look at what they might have in their closet that they are not wearing any more so they can donate for students to dress themselves in business attire for interviews,” said Zanatta-Buehler in a phone interview, “Everything is at a flat rate of $2 so someone can outfit themselves quite reasonably.”
At each campus staff and faculty are encouraged to bring in donations.
The clothing will be on sale in high traffic areas on each of the campuses on March 26.
“We have asked people to bring in gently used, clean clothes on hangers to the Career Centre, and we have someone at each centre to look after it,” said Zanatta-Buehler.
“So we are collecting ties, blazers, blouses, skirts, dresses so that the students may outfit themselves,” said Zanatta-Buehler.
Students, staff and faculty interested in making a donation to the “Dress for Success” clothing drive should bring their gently used, washed clothing on hangers to one of the Career Centres on each of the campuses, Tra D103, Davis B230 and HMC A163 until March 26.
The LinkedIn headshot clinics are being scheduled for March 25 at the Tragalgar Campus outside the library in C-wing, on March 26 at the Davis Campus in H-wing and the HMC event was earlier this week.
“We realized LinkedIn is one of the tools that students will be using quite heavily at their job search, and is also a tool a lot of employers are using for recruiting,” said Zanatta-Buehler. “We know that professional profile pictures are important. We think this is a valuble asset to sudents and they should all have it.”
The photos will be taken by an alumni from Sheridan’s Photography program and each campus will have an online photo gallery where the pictures will be uploaded and students can log on and access them.
