FALLing for fashion: A look into this seasons trends

A crispness in the air, colourful leaves and the return of a favourite TV show can only mean one thing – the fall has arrived. And what better way to celebrate the arrival of autumn than by adding some fall trends to a your wardrobe.

Swap a pastel high-low skirt for an emerald green pleated skirt. Trade in those wedged sandals for a pair of over-the-knee boots.

Some of the biggest trends in women’s fashion are being shown on the runways as well as the streets. They include oversized coats, menswear fabric and thick beanies. “The ’90s are back, along with a lot of crushed velvet, layering and burgundy,” said Jacqueline Surina, a Visual Merchandiser at Limeridge Mall’s Forever21.

Cuffed pants, camo and statement scarves are huge trends in men’s fashion this season, according to businessinsider.com.

“I’m excited for overalls, since I think it’s been a while since we’ve seen them,” said Ramin Danyal, a sales associate at Forever21.

Since not everyone can shop at Chanel or Topman, it’s best to look for these trends in more affordable places such as Forever21 or Winners. Forever21 has deals every week, such as denim for $7.80, Surina said.

A few trends from summer can be added to the mix of a fall wardrobe. Trends such as peplum shirts, floral and plaid pieces can all be recycled back into fall outfits, according to style.com. “I’m excited to wear more winter dresses and combat boots,” said Emily Beaton, a Visual and Creative Arts student at Sheridan.

Other big trends include baseball jackets and hiking boots (for men), capes (for both), gray-on-gray outfits. “Jewel tones are something I’m excited for and I want to explore dark blues,” said Kyle Feistmantl, also a Visual and Creative Arts student.
