Campaign season is kicking into high gear at Sheridan as the Student Union begins preparations for its 2013 board of director’s byelection. Students will get a chance to cast their vote Nov. 20 to 22 online or in person at all three campuses.

The deadline for candidate submission was Tuesday and eligible candidates will be introduced at events being held at all three campuses from Nov. 13 to 15. Seven spots on the board are up for grabs: three at Davis, three at HMC, and one at Trafalgar. Each candidate will be speaking at his or her campus’ respective events to introduce themselves and put forward their platforms. All students are welcome to attend the meetings.

“Students pay into this every year. It’s important for them to have a say on how their money is being spent,” said SSUI president Jenna Pulver.

Students will take to the polls starting Wednesday Nov. 20 and they will remain open until Friday, Nov. 22. Students will be vote through Access Sheridan or at electronic voting stations that will be set up at all three campuses. There will also be mobile voting stations touring both Trafalgar and Davis during class hours throughout the three-day voting window. Locations of the voting stations at all three campuses will be announced by the SSUI shortly.

Candidate meetings and speeches will kick off at 5 p.m. at the SU boardroom at Davis on Nov. 13, at 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the HMC Campus SU Lounge, and will conclude at the Trafalgar SU boardroom at 5 p.m. on Nov. 15.

While encouraging students to get out and vote, Pulver had the following message for constituents.

“Students should be voting for those candidates that meet their needs and that will bring their feedback to the table,” she said.

A contest promoting the election giving students a chance to win $500 and SSUI swag that has been running since the beginning of October will continue through the closing of the polls on the Nov. 22. Visit the SSUI website at www.sheridanstudentunion.com/student-union-elections for more information and to enter for your chance to win. Contest winners will be announced on Nov. 25.
