Internships – Opportunity or Exploitation?

BY JESSICA BEAULIEU AND STEF CASERTA

Most Sheridan students will have to complete an internship in order to satisfy the graduation requirements of their program.

Any internship, whether paid or unpaid, that counts for academic credits is deemed legal in the province of Ontario.

But there are thousands of other internships out there, in which young adults are working for free for months on end, hoping to catch a break into their industry.

Most of these internships are illegal and most of these young adults are being taken advantage of.

This website was created in order to shed some light on the issue of internships, in order to help people better understand the situation and what can be done about it.

We’ve talked with students, lawyers, educators and employers in order to get the issue’s bottom line.
