On Monday, artists from all ages and programs entered into Sheridan’s first Battle of the Brushes. The event was held as a fundraiser for the upcoming illustration grad show. Eleven artists entered in the three-round competition for bragging rights and a new drawing tablet.
- Artists battled within a blue tarp arena. They were allowed to bring their own supplies and paint whatever they wished.
- Caitlin Kirkwood, 3rd year visual arts student and cook at Union Burrito, was full of energy throughout the whole event.
- Josephine Juan, represented the 2nd year illustration students in the first round.
- Bryan Navasero, Sheridan graduate, entered because he always wanted to try out an art battle. He went on to the final round and knew he wanted to paint chickens.
- James Babarinde, 3rd year illustration student, was intense in the competition and thought up his work on the fly.
- Alex Jin was the only student to compete for the 4th year illustration program and was a top contender to win the battle. She competed in the last round and her inspiration for her second painting was Sailor Moon.
- Sadie Marfisi is a 3rd year illustration student and competed because she simply loves art. Marfisi advanced to the final round for her unique style and techniques.
- Mackenzie Murphy won the entire competition for the 3rd year illustration students. She was incredibly nervous and never expected to win.
