Students started taking to the polls yesterday for the Sheridan Student Union’s 2013 board of directors’ byelection. Voting will continue through tomorrow, however only Davis Campus students will have a choice of candidates.

The election, which is being held to fill seven vacant spots on the student union’s board of directors, will feature only one race at Davis. Both Trafalgar and HMC received only enough applicants to fill the open positions for each campus and will instead hold yes/no votes where students will approve those who applied instead of choosing between them.

“In the event that the same number of candidates run for the seats available, the students are, in a way, acclaimed. It just becomes a yes or no vote. On voting day students will have to vote whether yes, the candidate is okay, or no they are not. As long as the candidates get more yes votes than no, they are acclaimed,” said SU president Jenna Pulver.

While both Trafalgar and HMC Campuses found just enough interested students to fill their open spots on the board, Davis Campus will feature 11 candidates for three available spots.

Students will be able to vote at all three campuses at both stationary and mobile electronic voting stations, as well as online through Access Sheridan. Voting began on Wednesday and will continue through Friday of this week. Results will be announced on Monday, Nov. 25.
